Maj. Brock Peterson
Major Brock Peterson joined the Owensboro Police Department in 1994, serving as a patrolman on a patrol shift. In 1996 Major Peterson was selected as a member of the Community Oriented Policing Team which included being a certified mountain bike officer. In 1997, Peterson was assigned as one of the first members of the department’s new Street Crimes Unit, which primarily worked street level drug investigations. The Street Crimes Unit became the narcotics unit for the department. Peterson would become supervisor of the Street Crimes unit after being promoted to Sergeant. After his assignment in Street Crimes, Peterson went to night shift as a patrol sergeant and was then promoted to Lieutenant over the night shift patrol section. Major Peterson was later assigned as the department’s Professional Standards Unit, responsible for internal investigations. Peterson was promoted to Major in 2010 and assigned as the Support Services Division Commander. In 2013, Major Peterson became the Field Services Commander, responsible for patrol, investigations and traffic functions of the department.
Major Peterson earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Western Kentucky University in 1986. Major Peterson then completed his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Western Kentucky University in 2012.
Prior to joining the police department, Major Peterson served in the United States Army as a Commissioned Officer. Major Peterson served as a platoon leader, and company executive officer while stationed in Germany with the 1st Armored Division. Peterson was promoted to Captain and served as an instructor at the Air Defense Artillery School in Fort Bliss, TX. Peterson was then assigned to the 24th Infantry Division for Operation Desert Shield/Storm, then returning to Ft. Stewart, GA., served as Battery Commander of an Air Defense Artillery Battery.
The Field Services Division is comprised of three Patrol Shifts, Criminal Investigations Divsion, Traffic Unit, Bike Patrol, Emergency Response Team, and the K-9 Unit.
The Commander of the Field Services Division is Major Brock Peterson. Major Peterson is a 21 year veteran of the Owensboro Police Department and is a FBI National Academy graduate. Major Peterson is assisted in the operation of this division by four lieutenants and ten sergeants.
